Press Release

The General Assembly of the Consultative Forum of Political Organisations recognised in Rwanda took place on this Thursday, 22 April 2010.
The following items were on the agenda:
1. Exchange of ideas on climate change and its consequences on the sustainable development of the country;
2. Exchange of ideas on the main lines to guide the development of a Strategic Plan 2011-2015.

The discussion on climate change and its consequences on the sustainable development of the country was facilitated by the Minister of Environment and Lands flanked by the Director General of Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA). They showed how the situation is in Rwanda and in the sub-region while enumerating strategies and actions to be implemented in order to face this climate change.

The General Assembly requested all concerned institutions to double their efforts to change people’s habits in their activities, particularly in the area of construction and use of energy. Everybody should respect or established laws and instructions and not take them as measures intended to penalise them. This is the only sustainable way to redress the situation and promote genuine development. A sensitisation campaign targeting the overall population should be conducted to this effect.

Regarding the main lines to guide the development of the Strategic Plan 2011-2015, the General Assembly decided that necessary studies should start, and that relevant findings should be submitted to it in due course in order for it to approve this Strategic Plan.
Before closing the meeting, the General Assembly was satisfied about the training programme of the Youth Leadership Political Academy, and it thanked first-batch students, who will receive a certificate on 23 April 2010. The General Assembly closed its proceedings at 1:00 pm.
